Free Photo to Line Drawing Converter
Turn a product photo into a clean line drawing for your instruction manual. Download it as PNG or SVG.
Works best with one product on a plain background. Your photo stays in your browser and is never uploaded.
How It Works
Three simple steps
Add your photo
Use a JPG, PNG or WEBP up to 10 MB, or try one of the samples.
Pick a style
Choose Technical, Manual or Sketch, then adjust line thickness and detail.
Compare and download
Drag the slider to compare, then download a PNG, SVG or transparent PNG.

Why instruction manuals use line drawings
Open almost any assembly manual and you'll find line drawings rather than photos. That isn't only a style choice. Line drawings do a specific job that photos do poorly.
They show only what matters. A photo includes reflections, shadows and wood grain, none of which helps someone find the right hole. A line drawing removes that noise, so the reader's eye goes to shape and position.
They print cheaply and clearly. Manuals are often printed in one color on thin paper, where photos turn muddy. Black lines stay sharp, even on a home printer or after being photocopied.
They need fewer translations. A drawing can carry a lot of the instruction without words, which helps when one manual ships to many countries.
How to take a photo that converts well. The result depends heavily on the photo. Put one product on a plain, light background, so the tool can separate it from what's behind it. Use soft, even light, because hard shadows can turn into lines. Keep the product in focus and fill most of the frame. Shoot from the angle you want in the manual, usually a three-quarter view from slightly above.
Choosing a style. Technical gives even, thin outlines and is a good default for parts and hardware. Manual uses a heavier outer line and less interior detail, which suits whole products at small sizes. Sketch keeps more surface detail, like wood grain, and looks more hand-drawn. If the result has too many stray lines, lower the detail setting. If it's missing edges, raise it.
What this tool can't do. It traces what's visible in the photo using image processing. It doesn't understand your product, so it can't remove a cluttered background perfectly, invent hidden parts, or redraw a perspective. Busy scenes won't give clean results. Treat the output as a strong starting point, and touch up the SVG in a vector editor for a final manual.
PNG or SVG? PNG is ready to paste into a document. Transparent PNG is useful when placing a drawing over a colored background or another image. SVG is a vector format that stays sharp at any size and can be edited in tools like Illustrator or Figma. Use it for print.
